Zasekhaya Market, at The Craft and Design Centre in Sandton, is one of those special, secret places where such colourful creativity seeps out the walls, under the doors, into the streets and if you head down to the market the first Saturday of every month, it can become yours too.
Zasekhaya is a non-profit organisation which focuses on training people to sell and market their handmade products. Artists are encouraged to be creative and design contemporary work that is unlike the work seen at traditional craft markets. The Zasekhaya Market, which is usually held the first Saturday of every month, is a great opportunity for local, talented designers and crafters to showcase and sell their original South African ideas to the public. Work that can be seen on display includes jewellery, mosaic, bead, wire and leather work, handbags, children's toys, clothing and more.
The next Zasekhaya Market will take place at The Craft and Design Centre on the 21st November. While you're in Sandton, you might as well make an outing of it – go for a leisurely lunch, buy some gelati and sit in the sun on the steps of the Nelson Mandela Square with your Zasekhaya purchases at your feet.
Saturday, 21 November 10:00 - 16:00
The Craft and Design Centre is situated on the corner of Rivonia Road and West Street in Sandton - just off Nelson Mandela Square.
